IP Printing Error: Unable to get printer status (client-error-forbidden)!

I am trying to set up printing to various printers from various Macs, both Intel and PPC, with 10.4.x, using IP Printing in a large network. Setup goes fine. I key in the IP address of the printer, it is seen, both within and/or across subnets, the printer is properly IDed, and the appropriate drivers are used to complete setup. The problem happens when I try to print from any of these computers. I get this error message: "Unable to get printer status (client-error-forbidden)!" I could find no info on this in Knowlege base. If I set up any of these printers using AppleTalk instead, everything works. Probably an issue with the network. Has anyone seen this one?
