I can't access router address. "404 not found"

With my Linksys cable modem and wireless router hooked up and running properly, I can't access the router address. I get "File 404 not found" and "The requested URL was not found on this server. " It is the same address as in the Network Preferences window. The wireless router works great and all computers in the network have fast internet access but my boys want to "tweak" the port settings on the router and can't get to them. I've tried resetting the router every way possible but to no avail so I'm wondering if I don't have something
set properly on the network page of OSX. Any help would be appreciated.

Okay, sometimes routers go weird...so, unplug the router for at least a minute, then plug it back in. When it finishes the startup sequence, try logging in again.

If you ever do get in, there is a firmware update available for your router. The firmware might be corrupted (happens a lot).

Okay, that is the default address for most Linksys products. Just for the heck of it, try http://192.168.100.1

What browser are you using? If Safari, try FireFox or Camino - Linksys products seem to have trouble with Safari since they were bought by Cisco.

Thank you Leeann for your continued interest.
That address brings up the cable modem information site, kinda gave me goose bumps because I thought it was the router site at first.
Yes I've tried Safari, Firefox, and Internet Explorer
I've double, triple, and quadruple checked the wiring between the modem, router and Mac Mini.
Also, the router is WRT4G version 2.2

I'm guessing you have your Cable Modem plugged into a LAN port on your router, rather than the WAN port.

(And you may well have the ethernet cable from your Mini going into the WAN port.)

Make sure the cable modem is in the WAN port, and any other computers are in the LAN ports.

Sorry Leeann and Boece. I've tried restarting the router different ways from plugging in power supply with reset button pushed, leaving it unplugged overnight, holding down the reset button for five minutes then restarting, etc... I've also re-re-re-rechecked the cable routing. This seems like such a waste for me to "complain" about this situation when the router is working perfectly. If it weren't for my boys that want to tweak it for their X-Box 360 I would even worry about it. I understand if you'd rather devote your time to other's problems.

What address are you typing in your browser to get to your router?

And what make/model router do you have?
