I just bought a Plextor PX-755UF external DVD burner to use in place of my painfully slow Superdrive. I tried plugging it in via firewire, and also by USB but the computer does not see the burner. Restarting doesn't help. How can I get my Mac to realize that it is there?
Do I have to return this burner?
I downloaded Patchburn but I'm not sure what to do with it. The only drive that showed up was my superdrive. I got the impression that it was for drives that are seen but not working - mine won't mount at all. The directions aren't that in depth, and I'm not terribly tech savvy - is there something I'm missing about it?
I was able to make the Plextor PX-755UF work. For some reasond I was not able to make it work with the Firewire connection. I used the USB connection. You make all the proper connections with the cables turn on the Plextor unit and re-start computer. Once it starts it ready to go you just insert the proper cd or dvd you want to use and it goes.
Hi Hondo65,
I was eventually able to get the drive to work but I have no idea why. I just went under System Profiler and found the device under FireWire, and for some reason it started to work. It was kind of like I had to show it where to find the drive.
