SanDisk Cruzer USB Flash drive

Hi!

I am new to the world of OS X and run into a problem trying to use a thumb drive to transfer files between my old windows box and my new i Mac.

When I plug in the thumb drive, the icon comes up on my desktop, as expected. When I go to drag a file to the drive I get the following message:

The item "doc1.doc" could not be moved because "U3 System" could not be modified"

Can somebody tell me what I am doing wrong here?

Thanks,

Craig

If two icons appear on the desktop when the flash drive is connected to your computer, drag the files to the other one. If only one icon appears, select it in the Finder, choose Get Info from the File menu, and check its format; if it is listed as Windows NT Filesystem, reformat it as MS-DOS in the Disk Utility, which is located in the /Applications/Utilities/ folder. Reformatting a disk will erase everything on it.

If for some reason you can't or don't want to reformat the drive, install MacFUSE on the Mac.

User uploaded fileThose Sandisk drives comes with U3 software pre-installed which is not Mac compatible. It sounds like you are trying to add that file to the U3 mounted disk and not directly to the USB drive.

You should have two disks mounted on your desktop when you insert that USB drive - one a .DMG-looking icon and the other a CD icon.

I removed the U3 software using the utility found at U3 HERE. It does require access to a PC to run, but you will never be troubled by the software again.
