My G3 Powerbook has stopped recognising the battery after shutdown. It finds it again if the battery is removed and reinserted twice. Anyone think of a reason for this?
If you have the Powerbook G3 Series Bronze Keyboard M5343 'Lombard' or the Powerbook G3 Series M4753 'Wallstreet' and are running 9.x or earlier, give Battery Reset 2.0 a try to remedy the issue.

Testing the internal backup battery was an interesting suggestion and produces informative results. The fact that the backup battery does not run down when the power is off and the main battery does not seem to be recognised is strange.
I haven't yet found out if the batter is recognized in your other test.
The internal backup battery will run down if both the main battery and power adapter are disconnected. Even though the main battery appears not to be recognized, make sure it is removed for this test.
One thing to consider is the type of battery - non-apple logoed batteries appear not to be recognized in OS X - but work fine - especially noticible when waking from sleep - I've had this problem with 7 different Pismos, and nothing - except plugging it into the AC adapater and taking the battery out and reinserting seems to work. (This is NOT a problem when running just OS 9 - leads me to believe it's an OS X software problem).
