Which model G3 do you have?

If you have the Powerbook G3 Series Bronze Keyboard M5343 'Lombard' or the Powerbook G3 Series M4753 'Wallstreet' and are running 9.x or earlier, give Battery Reset 2.0 a try to remedy the issue.

A few questions...
Is the battery recognized if the power adapter remains connected during a shutdown and restart?
You may wish to test the internal rechargeable backup battery.

Possibly the easiest test is to find another Lombard and Pismo, swap batteries, and see how each performs. -
Mar 7, 2007 5:55 AM in response to jplby Jim Calderwood,Testing the internal backup battery was an interesting suggestion and produces informative results. The fact that the backup battery does not run down when the power is off and the main battery does not seem to be recognised is strange.
I haven't yet found out if the batter is recognized in your other test. -

The internal backup battery will run down if both the main battery and power adapter are disconnected. Even though the main battery appears not to be recognized, make sure it is removed for this test. -

(This is NOT a problem when running just OS 9 - leads me to believe it's an OS X software problem).
