You may know that some PowerBook 3400c units are CardBus-capable, but not all. For years MCE Technologies (in Irvine) did CardBus-enablement service for the 3400c, and charged a lot for it. Do you know whether yours is CardBus-enabled? If not, there is no point in getting a card. I do have several cards, and use my two 3400c's with USB and FireWire devices.

For file transfer and general networking, why not use the Ethernet port?

    Afternon Ftfang...

I just got a Ethernet Crossover Cable to see if that will work in transfering the data files from PB3400c to G4...

Not sure about the whether or not my PB3400c is Cardbus enabled...do know it has PC Card slot for Type I and II...

I did read about MC Technology...way too $$$ to go that way.

Will let you know what happens. Appreciate the info on Ethernet.

    Cheers

Good luck with your file transfers between the PowerBook 3400c and the G4. As you can see from my signature, I also have a G4, and for years transferred files with my two PowerBook 3400c's, even through wireless networking.

Even though my PowerBooks are CardBus-enabled, the use of USB and FireWire devices is sometimes tricky. Over the years there have been numerous threads about this issue on the LEM PowerBooks E-mail List.

I think the most convenient (and cheapest) is File Sharing over Ethernet. Your 3400c has a built-in Ethernet port. If you have multiple computers on BroadBand Internet, hook it to your Hub with a straight cable.

What ultimately happens is that the other computer's shared drive appears on your Desktop as a Network Volume, and you can drag and drop files any way you wish using the Finder.

    To FT & Grant

Thank you FT for the suggestion of the Ethernet Crossover Cable...that was the key connection at a very minimum cost of $6.

Thank you Grant for the link to instructions for transfering files from PB 3400c with Mac OS 9 to a G4 with Mac OX 10.4

Complete Success...most appreciate your suggestions and links.

    Thanks again.
