About the [tiny] screws on the MacBook Pro

I ordered memory for my macbook but couldn’t find a screwdriver small enough to fit the screws in the casing.
In my search for a screwdriver that is small enough to loosen the crews on the macbook I traveled to many stores locally. I search the local computer stores [MicroCenter, Frys, and Compusa] to no avail. Finally a tech at one of the retailers confessed they have a tool that will fit but it’s for authourized service personnel only. They would gladly charge me >$30 to do, but d@%& I just spend $200 buying the memory, the last thing I want to do is pay someone else to install it.

So. I found a solution. As surprising as it may sound, a #1 sharp phillips head screwdriver fit perfectly! It has to be the sharp #1 that could pierce your skin. It may seem odd that such a large screwdriver would fit, but it did and seats perfectly into the micro-sized screw. You’ve seen it before; it’s the one that would round out any normal screw and you wondered why the heck it was in your tool kit! I stumbled across it in my automotive emergency tool kit.

Anyway, I wanted to share my experience.

After buying additional RAM I had the same problem finding a #00 phillips head screwdriver unti I went to my local True Value Hardware store. They had a 3 in one set of small screwdrivers (one was a #00 phillips head) for a price of $3.99.

When leaving the store I told the clerk that I had a tough time finding a #00 screwdriver. She said I should have looked at the jewelers set of screw drivers which is also very small (used in jewelry and eyeglasses).

The $3.99 set I bought worked perfectly.
