Connecting my Sony DCR-HC14E to iDVD

Hello

I am having a problem connecting my digital videocamera to my Apple MacBook using a FireWire cable. When I turn on the camera, set in on the "Player" mode, and connects it to the laptop nothing happends? Not in iDVD, and neither iMovie for that matter. It doesn't even appear in Finder... It is like it was never there?!?

It works fine with my Microsoft computer, but it is not available, so all I have is my laptop at the moment... So it is not the camera that is mailfunctioning...

Does anybody know what is wrong, and how I can fix it?

Hej Jesper og velkommen!

What kind of video camera is it? MiniDV tape? Hard disk? The second one won't work with iMovie.

I'm afraid I cant use the "guide" you have linked to, because I cant find any i.Link CONV. or VCR HDV/DV in my menues 😟 And if I just move on, I still can't import any videoclips, as the laptop still can't find the connection with the camera 😟

iLink is what Sony calls firewire...are you certain you are using a 4-pin to 6-pin firewire?

Is there a dock with your camera that has a USB port on it by chance? If so, turn the USB "Off".

It is a 4 to 6 pin FireWire, I've checked... I have turned off the USB stream on the camera, didn't help... Is there any chance, that my firewire port on my laptop isn't activated, or something? Because I haven't ever used the FireWire port yet.

When I have the camera connected, it is not showing in when i am in About this Mac, and More info, when I click on firewire 😟

Do you by any chance have any other external connected by firewire?

iMovie doesn't like daisychained externals. Try connecting the camera again with all other firewire connections removed.

Do you, on that model, connect the camera or the dock? Sometimes it is the dock that has the firewire socket.

Secondly, have you tried connecting the camera to the Mac before opening iMovie?

I think it worked now... I just attached the camera, but didn't turn it on until I was in the iMovie program, and now it seems to be working.

But if I have any further questions conserning the program, possible theme questions and such, I will write in here 😉

I think I am having pretty much control of iMovie and iDVD :P I just have one question... In the main window that you make in iDVD, if you just want a little bit of text to stay in the corner, how do I do that?

It is not suppose to be a link til another page, or have any function, other than to be read...

You mean some text of your own devising that is not part of a title?

I don't think you can do that. Trying to think of a workaround. The only one that springs to mind is to create a new background image in, say, Photoshop, with the desired text, and use that in the theme as the new backround (having saved it as a .jpg).
