Mac OSX...Windows DNS Server

I have a Windows Active Directory Domain, I am running Windows DNS and DHCP Servers. I have roughly 150 Mac OSX clients. My problem is that I can not get my OSX clients to register in the DNS server. I can ping a OSX client by IP but not by computer name, unless I manually create a host file for that machine. When I look at my DHCP leases I can see the computer name of the OSX client but I can not find a way for the OSX client to dynamically update the DNS server. Does anyone know if there is a way to do this? I have searched all over the internet and MS and Apple sites, and canot find anything. Any help or suggestions would be appreciated.

Change the DNS Zone security to "Nonsecure and Secure" updates (via the DNS MMC). OS X is not capable of doing secure DDNS updates.

The DNS zone security is already set to that. Also when I use the AD plugin provided in Directory Access, it registers the computer name in the AD Computers, Container.. but still no DNS entry???

On the DHCP server via the DHCP MMC, do a Properties on the server object, then go to the DNS tab. Make sure Enable DNS dynamic ... is checked. The third option is Dynamically update A/PTR for clients that do not request updates, check that.

Also verify that if you've statically assigned your OS X boxes that they have the correct DNS server(s).

You should probably renew your DHCP lease or restart OS X after doing either one of these things.

To avoid statically assigning IP address while still getting DNS updated dynamically, look into using the DNSUpdateProxy group in Windows Server. This allows the DHCP server to assign an address to a computer and then update the DNS server's entry for the computer.

DNSUpdateProxy is only needed when you want a second DHCP server to update the entries created by the first DHCP server or when a legacy client (NT, 9x) is update to a non-legacy client (XP/2003).

For a single server scenario, DNSUpdateProxy is not needed.
