Epson Printer Driver Issues

I am having problems with my epson printer. I installed the printer on my Mac (I have it installed on two computers and just switch between my pc and my mac when I need to print something) and it was working ok, but I couldn't check the ink levels and such from the MAC so I tried re-installing the driver and now the printer automatically goes into stopped mode when I send a job to print. I was on the phone with the epson people and we got the driver to install, but it's not going into the right folder. Epson said it should be going into the epson folder while it is going into the InkJet Printer folder (which they said is a commoninity of 10.4.4) so I guess I am wondering how I can make it so this printer go into the right folder? Because now when I started my computer again this morning it is not printing again, I did have it working for a little while yesterday afternoon. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

MAc, Mac OS X (10.3.9)

Exactly which model Epson printer is it?
Did you use the printer's software CD to install, or did you download a driver from the Epson website?
Did you uninstall the previous driver before reinstalling?

"...it should be going into the epson folder..."
Is there an Epson folder present, and where is it located?

"...it is going into the InkJet Printer folder..."
What is the exact path, on the HD, of that folder?
And exactly what is appearing in the folder?

"... is a commoninity of 10.4.4)..."
Are you using Tiger 10.4.x, or Panther 10.3.9, as posted in your specs?

It's the Photo R260.
I installed it with the CD. And it worked right away. But then when I went to start it again the next day it didn't print anymore. So I uninstalled the driver and reinstalled from the website. That again worked for the day and then when I went to restart the next day, It didn't show up as a printer. (When I did reinstall I still couldn't see the ink levels and such, just print) So I was on the phone with epson for a couple hours. And the guy said that even though I am on a 10.3.9 the driver is going into the wrong folder. It's going into the folder it would if it were a 10.4.x.
It's going into the InkJet Printer folder when I guess it's supposed to be going into the Epson folder.
So now I got it working but it's not working to the full potential because it's not in the right folder and the Epson guy didn't, nor I knew how to get it into the right folder.
Thanks for your help ali b

You're Welcome levensgirl!

No guarantees, but try this. It's what I used to do when my Epson C86 malfunctioned. The procedure should be the same for your R260.

* Download the most current driver from Epson.
Printer Driver v3.6aAs

* Before moving the folder & files listed below, to a Temporary Epson Trash Folder, that you should create on the Desktop, open Printer Setup Utility, and delete the R260.
* Quit Printer Setup Utility

* If present, move the files (Posted in CAPITALIZED Italics), to the newly created Temporary Epson Trash Folder

HD > Applications >
EPSON PRINTER UTILITY (Alias)

HD > Users > Your Home > Library > Preferences >
COM.EPSON.IJPRINTER.UTILITY.PLIST
COM.APPLE.PRINT.CUSTOMPRESETS.PLIST
COM.APPLE.PRINT.PRINTCENTER.PLIST
COM.APPLE.PRINT.PRINTERPROXY.INTERNAL_MODEM.PLIST
COM.APPLE.PRINT.PRINTINGPREFS.PLIST

HD > Library > Printers >
EPSON (Folder) Only move this folder if you have no other
Epson products

I also had a Epson OS X booklet.pdf, that I had saved in my Documents folder. You will get a new one. After the installation, I replaced it. You may not have saved your original one. It's no big deal, there's really not much in it, In fact I don't remember the last time I opened it!

* Quit ALL running Applications

* Repair Permissions using Disk Utility in the Utilities folder

* Dig out your Epson R260 Start Here instruction quick sheet, for reference
* Unplug the USB cable from the Mac & then from the R260
* Re-attach the USB cable to the R260 & then to the Mac
* Turn on your R260
* Double click on: epson12071.dmg
* Double click on: epson12071r260_printer_driver36aas to open
* Double click the Installer icon to begin the installation
* Follow the prompts & instructions
* When the installation is complete, turn off the printer & restart your Mac.
* Repair Permisions again
* Turn on the R260
* Open Printer Setup Utility
* You have no printers available will appear. Click Add
* Select Epson USB in the contextual menu
* Click on Stylus R260 to highlight
* Add Page Setup: select All, from the contextual menu
* Click Add
* Quit Printer Setup Utility

The images below, that are left on the Desktop, can be trashed, unless you prefer to keep the installer for future use.

epson12071.dmg
epson12071 r260_printer_driver36aas
There may be a third item as well

Good Luck!

Ali,
I did everything that you had said. But now when I go to print I am still getting the same error message. It will print just fine. But when I go to look at the ink levels and such, I am get a status description of communication error. It says to check all the connections and make sure the device in on. Which it is since it's printing my document but it won't let me see what's going on with the printer.
Thanks

Ali,
I deleted everything that was on the list. There was one however that I didn't have at all and that was
COM.APPLE.PRINT.CUSTOMPRESETS.PLIST
but I deleted all the others and reinstalled and did everything that you said.

I have my printer connect through the front usb because I have to share it between my mac and PC, so I just unhook it from the Mac to put it on the PC when I need to print from the PC also I am using the PC to check the ink and such because I can't on the Mac.
But now I just went to look at the Utilites again. I can check the ink level when it's not printing. Only when I am printing do I get the error message, which says communication error please check to make sure the USB in connected to your computer kind of thing. But it prints just fine.
I am accessing printer utilites through the bottom part of my screen where the picture of the printer is, then it opens up printer list, I highlight Stylus Phot R260 and click utility. And thats when I get the ink when not printing, and communication error when I am.
Thanks
