Itunes Store Problem

"iTunes could not connect to the iTunes store. Make sure your network connection is active and try again."

My internet is running and every other program that uses internet works fine.

I ran the diagnostic and this is what it displays:

Microsoft Windows XP Professional Service Pack 2 (Build 2600)
Dell Computer Corporation Dimension 8250
iTunes 7.1.0.59

Current user is an administrator.

The only anti-virus i run is AVG Anti-Virus 7.5 Free Ed. and I closed it out in order to see if that was the problem, and it wasn't. I was fine before I upgraded to the newest iTunes, and when I try to connect to the store to download a song, it gives me this error message every time. I have cleared the DNS cache and this does not work.

Can anyone help me? Thanks.

Are you running any of Symantec's (Norton) or McAfee's Internet security products or anything similar? There have been reports that Norton and similar firewall products treat an upgrade to iTunes as a new application and so you have to go in and reallow connections for iTunes. The same thing can happen if you upgrade the security product (this has particularly been a problem with recent McAfee upgrades).

Check the settings for your Internet privacy utility and if necessary remove and re-enable the exception for iTunes (consult your privacy filter's documentation for the appropriate procedure). You may also need to check the built-in Windows firewall as well.

Hope this helps.

I have had the same issue after upgrading to iTunes 7 but have resolved this problem after successfully deleting my Zone Alarm firewall. Deleting this firewall is not easy and I found all the information in finding what firewalls are active and how to delete them through support at Mozilla's website. Please head to http://kb.mozillazine.org/Errorloading_anywebsite as they have all the instructions and links there. I used the EnumProcess program they recommended to find out what firewalls I had were active and followed their instructions on how to disable my firewall. Now, I am able to use the latest Mozilla Firefox as well as get into the iTunes store! Hope this helps!

Installed new version today--now I cannot connect to the Itunes Store. I get the message that I have a connection problem, but my connection works for everything else. Tried reinstalling, checking firewall settings, etc. No problems found. Has anyone tried un-installing itunes, then reinstalling? I thought about trying that but am afraid of losing my library.

I got an error that my audio was messed up... I could hear everything COO if i played anything with sound... REINSTALLED my drivers for sound then i was ABLE to get Itunes to open. I STILL get the **** cant connect to the store error.
You can still use itunes to listen to music you have imported to your library. You wont be able to listen to your purchased music from itunes and that suck$...

the doods who created the newer... version should all be slapped back to when they had the idea to UPDATE everyone..

Re: iTunes Store Connectivity issue

Check this article, if you have any of these types of programs, disable them (temporarily) and test whether or not you can connect.

http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=93434

In some cases, a program may need to be removed to allow connection. However, your more reputable "security" programs allow you to temporarily "disable" them, for a quick check of iTunes Store connectivity.

Hope this helps

Has anyone been able to resolve the issue of not being able to connect to the iTunes store? I have tried everything...firewalls..etc...nothing seems to work. I called tech support and they weren't very helpful and admitted to me that several people have called and had similar issues..they want me to uninstall and reinstall iTunes....after reading all of these posts I'm not confident that will do anything.
