New Airport Update Issues

Just downloaded and installed the new updates for Airport Extreme and now it won't accept my network password? I changed it on my router and still it won't accept it when I know it is correct?

Was there a problem with the update?

I talked to two different Apple technicians on the phone and the second one recommended I go to a Genius Bar. I did that and the Genius said that there didn't seem to be any hardware issue and that it's not the first time she had people talk about problems connecting to 2WIRE routers. However, she could only recommend that I reset the router and set it back up again with this Mac that's having problems.

I have 3 other Macs at home that can connect wirelessly to this router just fine (well, one of them I seem to have to manually connect almost each time, but once connected, everything is fine).

Hi,

Since I installed the Airport Exterme Update 2007-003, my wifi connection from the MBP 15" stopped working.
Even while disabling WEP and WPA, and enabling SSID brocasting, the MBP 15" reports "There was an error joining the AirPort Network" while connecting to the wifi, although my other PB 17" and 2 other PC are able to connect to he same wifi.
I'm re-installing my MBP 15" and again, after re-installing all the updates, the signal is really low (about 1 bar) compared to 4 bars for the other laptops. I know, the embedded antenna are certainly different, but there is anyway a serious difference.

Now you say that there is the Airport update 2007-004, where ?

The latest I can see on the apple support page is 2007-003 from May 1.

Do you have a pointer to the update 2007-004 ?

Thanks

I'm still back in OSX.3.4 land, didn't download any updates but nevertheless my Airport Extreme card (v. 3.1.2b3) won't connect with my Billion 7400 series modem over wireless. No matter which security protocol I try: WPA1 TKIP or 2 with AES, or WEP with any combo of Hex or ASCII passwords. The ISP helpwallah tried to get me connected for 40 minutes over the phone but finally admitted defeat and directed me to Apple. Apple, of course, want me to pay $49.95 before they will (possibly) help me because I have an older model. I've been looking at this thread and other similar ones with a sinking feeling. I'm inclined just to leave security off the wireless, since I live in a pretty quiet suburban neighbourhood in the country, but that may not stop people accessing my router if they have a good enough range (or will it? what is the visible range anyway?). If anyone out there has a workable fix for this please let me know. Cheers, Brett.

Count me in as one with the wireless connection problem, at least with my core duo imac. It seems to have gotten worse by the day and won't connect at all now. I don't use encryption and have not tried to. My modem is a dlink 524 and have tried resetting it.

My g4 ibook and my g4 cube with the usb dlink wireless adaptor works just fine. The Quicksilver has died..I think a hardware problem so I can't check it out.

After the latest update, and then reapplied. The MacBook Pro got itself such that it couldn't get into an OPEN network on the Actiontec WAP/Switch/Modem, so configured for WPA, and it connected...

That was yesterday. Today, not so much. With WPA, I get:
Aug 6 23:21:03 Wxp7Bs88d7 /System/Library/PrivateFrameworks/Apple80211.framework/Resources/airport: Error: WirelessAssociate2() = 88001006 for network ACTIONTEC. The operation timed out.

Of course, the Powerbook and Dell both connect fine.
Of course.

And worse, I can't update my Bug Report with pertinent information- I press the submit button, and it asks for a "component," for which there's no space on the form. I've sent several e-mails, but the ticket doesn't have the update, and at the top of my ticket in big letters (GF says they are red) is indicated that I don't have rights to view...

It's been a long time.

How do we roll back drivers? Does anyone have that site handy?

I am running a Belkin G router with a MAcbook Pro. After the update I started getting disconnects. If I turned off the MACBook Airport by right clicking the icon in the left hand top of the screen and turning the airport off and then back on the connection would start working again.

I found a post on the internet (Somewhere I don't remember where) that if you set your router to WPA TKIP not WPA AES the problem will go away. I have tried this and have used this setting to over two weeks with no issues. The bonus is that you are still using WPA and not leaving your WIFI insecure.

Before the update I used used WPA AES with no issues. Yes Apple needs to look into the issue but this has solved my problems. Good luck to all.

Not sure if this is relevant or will help anyone but I've had the same problem, 2 days ago my powerbook just wouldn't connect to my Belkin D link router after being connected for over a year. It could see the router but just kept throwing errors when trying to connect.

Anyway 2 days of tearing out my hair (and reading this thread) I found a fix that told me to delete all my connections and delete all relevant passwords in keychain, then restart. I then selected my network from the dropdown when it found it and it asked me for a password. I'm now connected (and no longer sat in a cupboard using a very short ethernet cable). I had tried deleting the connections and readding them but it seemed to be the keychain passwords that once deleted, fixed the problem.

Questions, Questions:
I am (was) planning to upgrade a G4 933 Quicksilver with a AP card but, after reading this post I have some concerns. The QS's ethernet port (attached to the motherboard) is worn out and no longer usable. Simply putting in a new ethernet card is not compatible with systems running 10.3/4. My only option is to wireless.

I am currently using a D-link DI-624 router. I have 1 pc desktop, 1 mac desktop connected via ethernet, and pc laptop and 1 mac pro laptop (with AP extreme) connected wirelessly. All computers have all of the most current Apple and PC updates.

So far everything is running excellent!

With the wealth of knowledge on this post I would like to know what others think i should do. Should I do with my old 933, buy and install an AP card or is it a waste of my time and effort seeing the issues others are having.
I await your respected opinions and advise.
Thanks

greenface6, Welcome to the discussion area!

You really should have started a new thread. This one is huge already and not related to your question.

Your G4 933 MHz QuickSilver is NOT compatible with the AirPort Extreme card.

Your G4 933 MHz QuickSilver has an internal slot with is ONLY compatible with the original 802.11b AirPort card. This card is no longer made nor sold by Apple. But you can still find the card for sale on-line at various vendors.

The 802.11b is capable of a maximum data rate of 11 Mbps while the Ethernet port on your G4 is capable of 10/100/1000 Mbps. So the available bandwidth will go down.

I think a better solution is a compatible PCI wireless card.
