Finders limitation on copy

Does finder have a limitation of file size it can copy? Recently trying to copy 600 gigsor so it missed a few files in sub folders. This is not the 1st time I have seen this. When doing a copy i am guessing it does a unix command of cp? or does it have its own way of copying a file?

EVERYTHING, Mac OS X (10.4.8)
