QuickTime 7.1.5 Gets ? in Q; can not play

Hi,
I down loaded QT 7.1.5 upgrade. Now all I get is a Q with a ? in it and can not play video or audio.

Any body know how to correct this? and what happened? bug in upgrade?

I deleted orginal, downloaded new copy several times, still no video/audio.

Thanks.

I've been having exactly the same problem in the last 2-3 weeks. Then, when there was a security update, the ? phenomena disappeared only to reappear today, after the latest update to version 7.1.5

This problem appears only in Safari and not in Firefox, for example.
I'd also be very thankful to anybody who can help solve this problem permanently.

Thank you, Rachel.

Ditto that!!!!
This is the same issue I posted a question for Dec. 18/06 and have not had it resolved yet (which was before the Quicktime 7.1.5 upgrade, I believe, and yet continues).
I'd like to know if it's Safari, Rosetta or Quicktime issue.
Please help.
Thanks

Nancy,
Since my Firefox browser works perfectly with QT (I've just tried it to be sure and it's indeed perfect), it can only be the Safari which causes the problem, don't you think so? It's just a logical conclusion.

In any case, I wonder if any Apple experts see these forum discussions, so that they can help us solving the issue.

Let's hope so.
Rachel.

Absolutely, Rachel. I agree totally. I much prefer Safari at this point but if I have to change over to using Firefox I guess I will.

I hope the Apple experts get this issue resolved sooner rather than later, if they care at all!

Here's to a "quick" and "time"ly fix to this problem!

Here's several sites:
(1) http://www.digitaljuice.com/default.asp Top page; orange banner = Q ?

(2) http://www.digitaljuice.com/products/products.asp?pid=216&tab=t3#tabs Click to Listen to Demo = Q ? also when clicking on any item in list it should show another list and then click on music track to listen = nothing

(3) http://www.cnn.com/ Big black square with Q ? on right side.

(4) http://news.com.com/ Big white square with Q ? on right side (advertisement) also on top banner

(5) http://nytimes.com/ Big white square with Q ? at bottom left of page

(6) http://www.latimes.com/ Three areas with Q 7 left top, right center & center bottom

(7) also some e-mails with video gets the big Q 7

Thanks for any help; I too think it might be the Flash software, but then again, the problem did start with QuickTime patch; because before everything was working correctly.

Most, or all of those examples are actually Flash movies. Go into the QuickTime area of System Preferences, and in the Advanced tab look at the Mime settings. Under Miscellaneous is Flash media, that should not be checked, unless you're an extreme optimist! QuickTime can only really handle Flash 5 or earlier movies, and Flash is currently on v9.

The other Enable Flash box you saw is specifically to do with Flash tracks that are inside QuickTime movies already. You're given the option to turn that off because of potential, though unlikely no doubt, security issues.

You may need to log out and back in again for the changes to take effect.

I tried to access a Flash movie (OS 10.4.8, QuickTime 7.1.3, Flash 9). This is the movie;
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=o-KWYYIY4jQ

Safari (v2.0.4) displayed a QT symbol with a question mark.
Firefox 2.0.0.2 displayed the movie without any problems.
The Flash option was enabled in QuickTime Preferences.

Following error messages from several sites, I upgraded to QuickTime 7.1.5 and Flash 9,0,28,0. There was no change; Firefox worked, Safari didn't.

After unchecking the 'Enable Flash' checkbox as recommended by Colin (thanks for that tip), Safari displayed Flash movies correctly. Firefox works as before.

All the web sites mentioned by JollyJim display correctly.

Thinking that the Flash Player could somehow be at fault, I installed the latest (ver.9,0,28 or something like that) and then downloaded the Debug Flash Player 9, ran that, and I turned Flash off in the QT prefs as suggested and rebooted for safe messure. I was hoping for a miraculous cure, but it didn't happen. The "Question Q" is still alive!
