update_prebinding runs everytime I log in. Help me stop it!

Hello everyone. So everytime I log in to Mac OS X 10.4.8 update_prebinding runs and gobbles up valuable disk I/O slowing my system down.

It doesn't matter what user is logging in and it doesn't matter if it's right after a reboot or not, update_prebinding runs everytime and it's starting to annoy me.

I've deleted the loginwindow.plist file but that hasn't helped.

If anyone has any ideas please share. Thank you!

Uninstall all your Unsanity Haxies and the APE. That should fix the problem and all other minor problems they cause on Intel Macs.

While I've never seen an issue with Haxies causing update_prebinding to run, this first suggestion will incidently eliminate that as a possible cause as well as other kinds of system mods, extensions, and bootup items.

Let's try a process of elimination to trouble shoot this. First of all, check and see what's in your main /Library/StartupItems folder? Perhaps there is a remnant of an errant disk utility/cleaning app like OnyX or something else which depends on the use of rebooting to finish their deeds... Nothing in there? Anything other than nothing? Please post what's in this folder and I'll tell you if anything listed is suspect and needs deletion. If there's anything suspicious, hold SHIFT during boot until it says "safe boot mode" and then log in and see if all is better.. if so, it may be something in the startupitems folder at cause. If not, we will look at other possible causes.

Current versions of the Unsanity APE and Haxies will automatically run update_prebinding at startup to help eliminate problems with PPC software running in Rosetta. If you read some of the documentation at the Unsanity site you will learn more about the particular problem the APEs cause that results in any Rosetta-based application refusing to launch. The forced run of update_prebinding is a temporary fix for the problem, but it is not a 100 percent fix. Removing the APE and all haxies, however, will stop the prebinding as well as all other incompatibilities introduced by the haxies and the APE.
