ipod shuffle 2nd gen not syncing audible content at all

my audible audiobooks do not get copied to my ipod shuffle at all, it simply does not synchronize my aa-files.
it syncs and plays all the other sorts of files it should, including my iTMS-purchases, but not aa-files (audible format 4).

de- and reactivating my audible account on my computer (which did the trick for my iTMS-purchases) did not help.
newly downloading an audiobook from "audible-mylibrary" did not help, either.

all the aa-format-audiobooks in question play just fine on my computer and sync and play just as fine on my big old white ipod G3.

what else could i try to get the new little shuffle-thing to sync aa-format-files?

PowerBook G4, Mac OS X (10.4.8)

Select one of the audiobooks and click File>Get Info>Summary to verify that the format is

AA (audible.com spoken word, formats 2, 3, and 4)

BUT, here's a quick question: Is your mode switch set to the play-in-order position? Shuffle only plays "audiobooks" in audible format in play-in-order mode.
