Daylight Savings Time

Two problems with iPod Nano (other models I expect) and DST.

1) The process to play music via the alarm function stopped working today. (3/10/07) I use my iPod as an alarm clock, so this is a CRITICAL DEFECT.

2) In the calendar function, appointment times display one hour off when looking up a date under a different DST status. Last week when I looked up my schedule for today, everything was one hour early.

Apple needs to fix these bugs.

I noticed that once I hooked my nano up to my computer and let it sync in iTunes, and after disconnecting it, the time displayed on the nano main screen was correctly adjusted one hour ahead.

The next thing I had to do was go into the clock info screen where the alarm gets set and toggle the daylight saving time setting from off to on.

I hope this helps

I hope I don't sound like I'm repeating myself, but I want to try and clarify what my experience was with iPod and DST.

Note: I have my iPod set up to auto sync as opposed to manual when hooked up to the PC.

I don't believe the iPod detected DST on it's own. The iPod's main time display automatically changed ahead one hour once I hooked it up to the PC, which sync'd the iPod time from the PC system clock which was already in DST.

After disconnecting the iPod, it's alarm clock was still one hour behind. I had to toggle the ipod's DST setting in the alarm setup section, to 'on' in order for the alarm clock to display the same time as in the main display.

So, it would appear to me that the only place iPod would know about DST is in the alarm settings where you set DST to 'off' or 'on'.

To get times to be correct, it required a two step process. I'm not sure how it would work when manually managing the iPod.

No, it is a demeaning term.

The iPod doesn't automatically detect DST. You have to change it in your selected clocks and under date and time (change the time zone).

I'm not sure if the iPod changes the time in Date&Time or the Clock if you autosync since I manually manage my music on my nano and made the DST changes myself. My alarm clock works fine, as I stated above during a test. What is wrong with yours.

since you're using windows, most likely your using Microsoft Outlook. Microsoft released an update to patch the new DST fix [which is a different update than your PC's system clock] to get started on updating your computer, Microsoft provided this little handy thing on their website to help you update. When asked to download updates for your PC's SYSTEM CLOCK, just skip it if your time updated itself correctly when DST occured. here's the link: http://support.microsoft.com/gp/cp_dst
