How can I find out how much disk space I have free?

I want to download a large file from the internet (22.21 GB). I have deleted everything on my computer that I don't think is necessary to keep, but how do I find out exactly how much disk space my computer has free so I can download?

Apple Imac G4, 800MHz PowerPC, Mac OS X (10.4.8), 768 MB SDRAM, 800 MHz PowerPC G4

Well. My own is on my desktop at the top right hand side. Its the top icon listed on this page...

Hello again,

Yep. There is another way...

Click once on the icon with the mouse. Then from the top menu on your screen, click on " File " then scroll down to " Get Info "

That should tell you all you need to know.

Hi, did as you said and this came up:

Capacity: 55.89 GB
Available: 1.25 GB
Used: 54.64 GB on disk

But the file I want to download is 22.21 GB! What am I going to do? It is downloading normally, with no errors, but surely even if it downloads to the end it won't stay on my computer? Will it? Help!

Hello Rolanda:

You will have serious problems shortly. As a rule of thumb, you should keep about 10% of your hard drive free at all times. If you cannot delete much, you might consider investing in an external HD.

Barry is right on the money here ( Hello Barry! )

You need to delete / remove some files off that computer as soon as possible. Start with things you never use. Then onto things that can easily be replaced.

I would not even attempt to copy to CD's until you have at least 5 or 6 GB free!
