Resuming sftp file transfers

Is there a way to stop and resume transfers using sftp, ftp or some other method such as asr?

If not, what is a nice command line app I can use to stop and resume file transfers.

Mac OS X (10.4.8)

ctrl z to suspend and fg to resume. That's only if your running sftp from inside Terminal.

ncftp (available in fink) and its relatives have a nice resume feature which will even recover an interupted tranfer when the link gets broken (like your intenet access going down). And it has a nice bookmark feature.

Interesting, thanks for the helpful information. Although for my purposes this is a little more dependent on a running ssh server, I think I'll give ncftp a try.
