Daisy Chain of MIDI

I'm wondering if anyone has a solution to creating a daisy chain of MIDI controllers/keyboards for use in Garageband. This would be for single track recording/performing using two or more devices. It would benefit in a few ways: multi-octive triggering could be achieved, one less USB port would be taken and it would make for interesting live performances. For equiptment, I have an Evolution MK-425 MIDI Keyboard, M-Audio Radium 49 MIDI Keyboard, Yamaha DD-55 Digital Drums, and iControl all connected to an iMac Core Duo 20" 2GB RAM.

Have you tried it?

I'm not a MIDI Expert, but as I understood it, GB listens on all MIDI channels, so if you can connect more than 1 device to your computer, GB should use them (all on one track, of course, as you're apparently aware).

If you have tried it and it didn't work, hang tight, we have several folks here very well versed in MIDI (2 are overseas, so they might be in the middle of late dinners, or something)

Always a good plan to ask before burning cash.

I'm pretty sure it will work (I recall people posting in the past, being confused because they had hooked up multiple devices thinking they could record multiple MIDI tracks and being disappointed because it all recorded on one), but hang tight, Christoph, Roger, and X are just 3 of the folks around here that I know are very well versed in MIDI, and they'll likely pass through at some point (Germany, UK, and Mid West US time zones)

In theory you can chain MIDI devices as you describe (ideally putting each on a different channel).

However your Evolution and Radium keyboards do not, as far as I can see, have MIDI inputs, only outputs. The Yamaha drum machine has an input, but this may only be in, not through. Devices which can be chained usually have MIDI in, out and through (the 'through' does not play the device if it has its own sounds, and the 'in' does not pass through).

So you cannot chain your current setup: probably most keyboards wthout sounds don't offer this facility - it's usually where a device has its own sounds.

And as has been pointed out by yourself and HangTime, even if you chain a number of keyboards, they can only play one instrument on GB.
