10.4.9 Update released. Remember: Repair permissions before you update!!!

Issues on imac - Boots up, no networking, Finder issues... Tryed reinstalling update, no help. Trying DiskWarrior now. Otherwise I'll have to try the Combo update instead of the Intel only one.

Restore your backup and try the COMBO update. No backup, then you didn't really read the first post.

I am unable to install the 10.4.9 update. I repaired permissions, then used software update and received the following message (twice):

The update "Mac OS X Update (Intel)" can't be installed.

Sorry, an unexpected error occurred.

The Installer package has been moved to the Trash.
To try again, open the package from the finer.

I then tried downloading the update and installing that way, and the install failed there as well.

ok, strange i was downloading the combo update and now before i even installed my mouse is working as it should again making all seem to the naked eye to be ok.

should i go ahead and install the combo to be sure?

I think it is normally fine
Mostly it is only people who have installed quite weird third party software
that could cause trouble.

I maintain four apple computers: 2 G5 desktops, 1 G4 powerbook and one C2D macbook. I use softwareupdate via terminal from the macbook and everything so far has been really smooth.

Combo Update fix my issue on the iMac. Networking is back along with everything else. Good luck.

I too got the error not allowing me to install the update and was prompted to restart anyway. It took ages restarting so i manually restarted and now my mac mini just hangs at the boot up screen with the apple logo.

Am i completely screwed? is there any way i can get back into OSX now? ... without losing my data??

Please help, im going mad here!

I'm a bit confused on this update. Software update does not show this on my MB and when I go to the download website it specifically states in the descripton that:

"The 10.4.9 Update is recommended for PowerPC and Intel-based Mac computers currently running Mac OS X Tiger versions 10.4.0 through 10.4.7"

Does that mean I don't need it if I'm running 10.4.8? hmmmmmm.

OK, so I found the other delta release for those who are running 10.4.8

but this update still doesn't show up in my software update.

I think that my update went ok... but it changed the icons for my Firewire external harddrive. Instead of the orange drive icon it's a gray-framed rectangle with a blue stripe at the top. I've never seen this icon before

I would recommend that you don't use software update, but download the full 10.4.9 combo updater, and install that, taking the usual precautions.

If i do a re-install (archive and install while preserving my user and network info) will that only overwrite the OS X system files? i.e. will all my apps (and their settings), downloaded files and itunes library still be intact?
