iSync 2.4 (OS 10.4.9), Nokia N80: pairing problems and USB support question

I've just updated to MacOS X 10.4.9 but I can't get my N80 to pair with Address Book (to log calls, receive or send SMS). Does anybody get this to work?

In the official supported phone list (<http://www.apple.com/macosx/features/isync/devices.html>) the N80 is now listed as USB compatible... what does it means? I can mount my miniSD card connecting the phone to my Mac via USB since I've update my phone to the last firmware avaiable (using an homemade plugin). There are other USB features I'm missing?

I've 319 contacts on my Address Book (with pictures too), many iCal events (almost 100) and I have always successfully synchronized my N80 since I've upgraded my phone with the last firmware available from Nokia.

Actually I'm running this version: v4.0623.0.41 (26-07-2004). This is the last version for branded N80 phones. To get your firmware version you have to type *#0000# on your phone.

Take a look at Nokia's site (you'll need a PC or an Intel based Mac with Paralles or BootCamp to use their PC-only software).

Up!

I still haven't found a solution for those pairing problems with iSync 2.6 and my N80.

Does somebody has seen an how-to to make an Address Book plugin?

the only solution I found is the NovaMedia Address Book plugin:
http://www.novamedia.de/epages/e_produkte_mac_abplugin.html
(ok, it's less than ten euros but I don't like third party plugins)

Thanks in advances 😀

In your first post you said "I can't get my N80 to pair with Address Book (to log calls, receive or send SMS)". Now you say you can't pair with iSync. Which is it?

So, you don't like third-party plugins (from a professional software developer), but you don't mind risking trying to make your own Address Book plugin from some third-party "how-to" ?

Strange... I know which I'd be more likely to trust. And at least if something goes wrong you've got someone to go to for support.

Just an error; you "geek" should know that N80 phones are compatible with MacOS X 10.4.9 and the last version of iSync. Of course the problem is with AB.

Sure I can trust myself but many third party plugins make just problems and you have to pay for them too (take a look a StuffItDeluxe contexual plugin and Finder crushes; and this is just an example).

When I wrote the iSync plugin for my N80 I had success and I was able to do everything I can do right now with the Apple official plugin built in in MacOS X 10.4.9.

If you "geek" just don't know a solution you just keep this forum free from your usefulness posts.

But if you had actually read this forum you would know that some people are having problems with N80 and iSync 2.4.

Then, why are you asking in the iSync forum? Perhaps if you posted your question in the correct forum, there would be no confusion about what you are talking about. Address Book has its own discussion forum here.

You must equally be a "geek" then - go and write your own AB plugin then.

Well, I was trying to understand exactly what your problem is from your confusing and contradictory posts, so that I could offer a solution. But I won't bother now.

Someone else is having those problems, not me.

Because it's a problem related to Sync Services and the core of Sync Services is iSync; I'm not supposed to explain something that a developer should know by himself. Probably I'm wrong but AFAIK this is explained here:
http://developer.apple.com/macosx/syncservices.html

No, I'm not a geek; I just can take an example from an how-to and start writing my own plug-in but I don't know anything about coding: you are the "geek", you are supposed to know this kind of things.

But I won't
bother now.

Bye bye.

No it isn't. What do Call and SMS functions have to do with syncing?

SyncServices is the core framework, part of the Mac OS X system software.

iSync is just a simple graphical front-end to set device specific options, and to actually start a syncing operation.

Probably I'm wrong

Yes... you are COMPLETELY wrong!

Have you actually read the document you linked to? NOWHERE does it mention anything about Call and SMS functions. And that's because they are a TOTALLY separate issue to syncing contact and calendar data.

So, just to make it clear to you:

iSync and Sync Services have NOTHING WHATSOEVER to do with the Mac Address Book's ability to pair with your phone for SMS and Call functions.
