Rebuilding Mail from a LaCie drive backup

Just replace ~(Home)/Library/ Mail (copy the whole folder) from your backup.

Also ~(Home)/Library/Preferences/ com.apple.mail.plist This is a very important file which contains all email account settings and general mail preferences.

Then open mail, if it asks to import anything, decline.

For completeness, and in case you instead want to import your mail for some reason, the problem you’ve encountered is almost certainly that you’re selecting the wrong folder when importing.

Pay attention to the instructions that Mail displays when choosing Mail for Mac OS X as the data format. Mail wants you to select the folder that contains the mailboxes to be imported (i.e. the folder where the *.mbox folders to be imported reside), not the *.mbox folders themselves nor the Messages folders within them.

If you select the wrong folder, Mail says “No valid Mail for Mac OS X files were found” because it cannot find any *.mbox folders within the folder you’re selecting.

Yes..I did it, rebuild mail from my iBook and also the files from library. I'am only lost the folders, but I think I can rebuild them the same way!
