Q: Printing to Xerox WorkCentre 7655 From Mac OS 10.4.9

I have a 1.5 GHz PowerBook G4 (1 GB RAM) and upgraded to Mac OS X (10.4.9) a couple of days ago. My printer (Xerox WorkCentre 7655, attached through Airport Wireless/Ethernet) will only print one copy, regardless of how many copies I request. If I request 200 copies, I still only receive one copy from the printer.

I noticed that one of the problem 10.4.9 "corrected" was the number of copies with the print server.

What gives? How do I get the number of copies I request to print out correctly?

I have shut everything down, re-set everything, reinstalled the printer drivers, and scoured the settings to make sure they are correct. This was clearly engaged when I upgraded to 10.4.9... Any helpful thoughts?

The number of copies can be impacted by the 'Collated' option in the Print dialog. With this checked, when you change the number of copies from 1, ex 2, then that is the number of spool files sent to the printer.

However, with an increasing number of machines with hard drives for spool files, this repetition of file spooling is not needed as they receive the job once and then print the number of copies entered. Therefore the Collated option can be disabled.

So, maybe in your case, the Collated option is unchecked and the printer is not responding to the copies command?

I also have a Xerox WorkCentre 7655 and encountered the same issue when printing multiple copies. No matter how many I indicated in the Print dialog box, I only received one copy. After reading PAHU's advice, I selected the Collated option and received the correct number of copies. Thanks.

Well, I tried the "Collate" option (there are two, one in the primary printing frame, and another imbedded deeper in the Zerox options frame), and neither make any difference. Still one copy, no matter the number requested.

    I am perplexed and frustrated...

Hello. I have the same issue since the 10.4.9 update. This problem is with a xerox wcp32 and two macs that I have updated. I have three other macs that have 10.4.8 and older that work correctly. I have tried the collate fix, fixed permissions, deleted and updated drivers and ppds and have not fixed this problem. I am waiting to hear from xerox directly on this matter and will post their response as soon as I have it. Good luck!

I spoke too soon. Although selecting the "collate" option did work for me, my application (InDesign) resends the job however many times I've entered into the quanity box. If I need more than a few copies, that becomes impractical.

I've emailed and spoken to xerox level 2 support. They are now aware of the problem and are trying to recreate it to see how to fix it. I also sent them the link to this discussion. I'll post their finding when they get back to me.

Outstanding to hear Xerox is working on it, I will be checking back in DAILY for a response. Thanks so much for finding this thread and working with the issue...

Thanks, WK1... I'm looking forward to their response. In the mean time, I've had some success by saving my print job as a Postscript file and submitting the file to the 7665 using its browser-based interface. Once there, I selected the "collate" option and entered the desired quantity. It worked, but it's a hassle. I may decide to reload 10.4.8 if Xerox doesn't have a reponse soon.

Well Xerox must be stumped at the moment because I haven't heard back from them...I assume they are closed for the weekend. I will try calling them if I don't hear back soon.

Any new word on this issue? From Xerox or Apple?

I have encountered the same problem -- only prints one copy, regardless of how many are requested -- with our Xerox WCP C2636. Xerox tech support reloaded and upgraded the software on the printer and I reinstalled the PPD on my machine. Choosing "collated" fixed the problem in Adobe InDesign CS2 and Adobe Acrobat Pro 7. But the problem persists in other apps, such as Word 2004, Preview and Pages. I spoke with Xerox level 2 sofware support; they were unable to reproduce the problem on their test Mac (I suspect it wasn't upgraded to 10.4.9).

I suppose that I am joining the increasingly large number of users who are eagerly awaiting a fix for this annoying and frustrating problem.

If these Xerox printers supports postscript, then it might be worth trying to print using a generic ps printer. If this doesn't work then it would indicate it being an OS issue, and a possible reason why Xerox is having trouble recreating the problem.
