Burn Error

I've tried and tried to backup my iTunes library to a DVD+R, but it just won't work. Most of the time it doesn’t even burn the first item before it cancels the burning due to an unknown error. Other times it may get half-way through and then cancel. I’ve tried lowering the burn settings and using a different brand. I've also tried burning a DVD movie in windows DVD burner, but it gets an error at the very end. I have the latest firmware too so I'm pretty lost.

I've also tried burning a DVD movie in windows DVD burner, but it gets an error at the very end.

hmmmm. what does that Windows DVD burner error message say, GM05? that might help us narrow in on what's going on with the iTunes burn problem.

(if you're getting any error message numbers, let us know what they say.)

Well the DVD burner does its thing until it gets to 71%, then it suddenly jumps up to 80% and lands on 98.9%. It then ejects the disc saying "Cannot create the DVD. The DVD could not be burned because an error occurred. Try using another blank disc and make sure that your DVD burner is connected and working properly." They also suggest to lower the burning speed to medium or slow, I tried medium and after waiting forever ended up with the same error. The errors I get in iTunes tend to be in the 4200,4250,4280 area. They aren't always the same for some reason.

This is actually my first custom built system. I built it about 2 weeks ago and remarkably have had no problems except for this and waiting for good Nvidia drivers. I'm pretty sure I connected the DVD drive cables right, just an ATA and power connection. I have also discovered that I can burn things just fine to CD-R media. I might go out and get some DVD-R to see if this solves the problem. I really don't understand though, everything should be compatible. Maybe it’s some kind of an issue with the new Live File System in Vista. When I burned songs to a CD-R, I could go into it and delete individual songs even though the -R CDs aren't supposed to be re-writable.
