Command Option O F - does not work!

Hello,

I have been told to press "command" + "option (alt)" + o + f upo restart (before or very shortly after the beep) to enter into open firmware.
But this doesn't work for me and my Macbook C2D.

The grey Appla appears and the system starts up normally.
The safe mode works on the other hand.

I was trying to reset the firmware, because my Macbook does not read any media. Neither the system DVD nor anything else appears on the desktop.
I cannot read any CD from within the disk utility nor can I burn an empty CD.

On the other hand the computer recognizes a CD or DVD (Roxio toast tells me the size of the volume), the drive does not make any unusual sound.

What's up with my Macbook?

Thank you for your advice.

Hi.

Don't worry, there's nothing wrong with your Macbook.
The Intel Macs do not have Open Firmware, so there is no way to boot into Open Firmware. Your Macbook uses EFI (Extensible Firmware Interface).

If you want to reset the NVRAM/PRAM, restart your machine and hold Command-Option-P-R until you hear two chimes.

To reset the SMC (System Management Controller):

Good Luck.

Pressing it isn't enough. You need to press and hold the keys.

Resetting the Mac from Open Firmware.

Restart the Mac and immediately hold down the Command Option+OF keys. This will boot you into open firmware. When it stops, you will be looking at a ">" prompt. At the prompt, type each of the next three lines, followed by pressing the Return key. Type each line exactly as show (without the (press Return) part), no capital letters or spaces.

reset-nvram (press Return)
set-defaults (press Return)
reset-all (press Return)

The Mac should restart after pressing Return on the third command.

Good luck.
