Traveling to England with iBook G4

Hi.
I am traveling to England soon and want to bring my iBook G4 & an external hard drive so that I can document our travels with video and iWeb.

What do I need to be sure I can plug in over there? Do I need anything to convert the power coming into my computer or does this happen automatically (as I'm told happens with PC laptops?). Do I only need a plug converter?? Also, I am hoping that my wireless will pick up on the wireless I find over there ~ it's universal, yes?

Thanks for any helpful hints.

May I suggest...

As a precaution...

That you use your G4 iBook on battery, and then SHUT IT DOWN before you plug it into the power over there to recharge the battery, and then UNPLUG it before you turn it on again to use it ??

You can plug your external power brick right into the household current in England and your iBook should charge OK with just an adaptor that accepts your North American plug and converts it to the British configuration, but its best to be careful.

Yes. I just got back from France where I spent four glorious weeks and burned out the HD on my G4 iBook by keeping it plugged into 220v while I was using it.

Coincidence ? Maybe...

Hi Margie,

As a UK user of an iBook I can confirm that they work perfectly with UK current. The charger as supplied by Apple is worldwide universal and you need do nothing other than either get an UK spec Apple adapter/extension lead to go on your power brick or an adapter to convert your existing plug. The Apple one can be difficult to get hold of on its own but Apple sell a worldwide kit, at a price.

A quick look at eBay.co.uk shows one seller selling the complete brick/cord/adapter kit ridiculously (suspiciously?) cheap, another selling at a more believable price and one selling just the extension cord with the UK plug on the end. He doesn't quote shipping to the US but you could 'Ask Seller a Question' to see if he would post to USA and how much. From what I can see of the photo it looks like the correct one but, again, you can confirm with the seller. Only 1 day + 5 hrs to go at time of this post.
You could check eBay.com too.

Good luck,

Adrian
