Mounting Failed - Broken Pipe

After applying 10.4.9 Update, I am no longer able to successfully mount any Disk Image. When trying to mount, I am presented with an error, telling me i have a "Broken Pipe." I have tried creating my own Disk Images using Disk Utility to no avail. Can someone shed some light on this matter?

iMac Late 2006 Intel C2D, Mac OS X (10.4.9)

Hello D.ant,

Are the older Disk Images that you created also refusing to mount?

Try opening Disk Utility and attempt to mount the images manually.

Post back the results...

first of all: WELCOME TO THE DISCUSSIONS!

Boot into safe-mode (hold down the Shift-key during boot) and then reapply the Mac OS X 10.4.9 Combo Update (Intel).

I have tried applying the Combo Update in Safe Mode, but I still cannot mount .dmg files - I am presented with a 'Broekn Pipe' error. I have a feeling that this is due to corrupt system files. I have tried repairing the volume, by booting from CD, but this too did not solve the problem.

Every .dmg file that i open, gives me a 'Broken Pipe' error.

In reply, I cannot open .dmg files that I have created, even .dmg files that worked before this problem.

Did it actually give you the message that the drive appears to be o.k. when you were done or did you get a different message?

a Unix "pipe" is a connection between two processes where the output of one process is sent to the input of the other. I don't know how that works in relation to a .dmg but apparently something is not being able to be sent from one process to another which could be some sort of system corruption or maybe some sort of cache corruption.

Perhaps you should try all three steps as explained here:

I am going to perform a reinstallation of Mac OS, to start fresh and solve this problem indefinately.
