Bought a Sony DCR-DVD608E handycam only to find out i can only transfer still images to my Macbook and not video.Does anyone know if there is a way around this, save using another computer.
You must use the i. Link (firewire) cable to import video to the mac. This cable may or may not have been included with your camera. It can be purchased for less then $20.
Thanks for the reply,i'm not sure if Sony make a cable that fits there device and ends in a firewire plug as the specific socket on the camera is like nothing i have seen before. The cable supplied with the device ends in a USB2 plug, any further help would be greatly appreciated.
i don't believe your camera has built in firewire.
that camera records directly to dvd, correct?
the usb cable is only for picture transfer.
what you may have to do is record to the dvd.
put the dvd in you computer, and use a program like handbrake to convert the VIDEO_TS folder into an editable format (MPEG-4) which can than be imported into iMovie or FCP for editing.
You are correct in that the camera does not have a built in firewire connection, however the USB2 does transfer video to what a suprise! sony computers and alike pc's,however its not supported by Mac software.I am just trying to find a way out with my Mac so i can edit the video at home and compile a dvd without taking it to a shop.
I like your first suggestion however the DVD the camera uses is much smaller than a normal DVD and i dont believe it is possible to load it into a Macbook or any computer that doesn't have a slide out compartment.
dude.....i think you should get an external optical drive to fit the 8 cm disc of the handycam.im going to get one and try it out.....cause the sony handycam dose not allow u to upload videos into the laptop...........so u should get and external optical drive............cause if i push the 8 cm disc into the macbook optical drive.....its gonna get stuck ......cause it not made for other sizes.....only the normal size ones......i dont know if this helps???????peace

P.S reply me to tell me if it works i would get back to u too when i get my optical drive......its only around $100 and below......
dude.......buy a extrnal optical drive.........the sony handycam does not allow u to upload videos into the laptop.......and the macbook built in optical drive does not allow the 80mm disc to go in.....it might get stuck......so get a external optical drive........which will cost u around $100 and below........so try it....i dont know if this helps u??????
