Importing samples- What are .asd, .nki, .nov, .sfk, .akm, .AKP files?

I have a ton of sample collections that I'm trying set up as EXS24 sampler instruments. Most folders contain wav files in addition to one small executable unix file which has one of the following extensions-- .asd, .nki, .nov, .sfk, .akm, .AKP . Most commonly I find .wav.asd . I can't open these files and assume they are specific to certain samplers or software. If so, perhaps they contain information for the sampler about how to position and play the wav files as an instrument (zone, range, keynote, velocity that sort of thing which I won't pretend to be very savy with). It may be wishful thinking because it would save me a lot of time. Thoughts???? thanks!

From memory:

asd = Ableton Live audio analysis files (contain no sample data)
nki = Kontakt instrument files, may contain sample data as well
sfk = Soundfonts (instrument data & contain sample data)
akm, akp = Akai program files (instrument data, contain no sample data)
nov = never heard of

The sizes will tell you whether they contain significant sample data.

If you don't use Live, you can ignore ASD files. The EXS24 imports SFK and GIG (Gigasampler) files. Akai program files, together with their wav samples will need to be converted to EXS24. Kontakt files also need a conversion utililty.
