HP DeskJet 3500 through AirPort

Thanks again for the assistance re: connecting my old iMac G3 to the AirPort.

It's kind of strange that I'm spending so much time getting a six-year-old computer running, when I spend all of my time on my PowerBook. But the iMac G3 Indigo PowerPC 450mHz is just so freakin' cool. And it's always good to have a spare computer around the house.

Anyway, here's the issue. I'm connected to the Internet through the AirPort. My primary computer is a PowerBook G4 running 10.4.8. The G3 is running 10.3.9. My roommate uses some sort of PC laptop. I have an HP DeskJet 3500 plugged into the USB port on the AirPort. I am able to print documents from the G4.

When I try to set up the printer on the G3, the printer shows up in the 'add' list. (It's the only printer in the list.) But there's a message saying that there is no driver. It looks for a driver, I assume on the hard drive; but I don't actually know where it's looking. It doesn't find one. Thus, I cannot add the printer.

Is there a driver that I can download onto the G3 that will allow me to connect this printer (at least for as long as it lasts)?

Use the process outlined here:

HP Printers (and others) not on compatibility list and Airport Extreme Printing

Using the HPIJS drivers.

I went to the link: http://tech.ifelix.net/1302.html (The link in the previous message was for 10.4, and the G3 is running on 10.3.9)

It says to open the Printer Setup Utility. Did that. It says to click 'Add'. Did that. When I click 'Add' another window called Printer List pops up. There is one printer in the list: hp desktop 3500. The dropdown menu is Rendeszvous. Printer Model: Generic is greyed out. I get the animated Apple 'clock' thing next to 'Searching for new drivers'.

When I highlight 'hp deskjet 3500' a message appears below the name list box and the Printer Model dropdown: Diver Not Installed.

I changed Rendezvous to IP Printing and chose Socket HP/Jet Direct per the instructions. I entered 10.0.1.1 in the Printer Address box. I chose HP from Printer Model. In the dropdown menu that comes up next there is no DeskJet 3520 or 3500, but there's a DesignJet 3500. I chose that one. (I also tried the DeskJet 2500 option earlier.)

When I open the printer by double-clicking on 10.0.1.1 I see 'Printing pagr 0, 4%' followed by the blue-and-white horizontal barber pole. Status is 'Printing', only it's not printing.

I went to the second link and downloaded HP-DeskJet_3520-hpijs.ppd. Is that the driver? When I try to add the printer under Rendezvous it says it can't find a driver. When I try it under Socket HP/Jet Direct the 3520 still doesn't show up on the list of printers.
