I wholeheartedly agree with the 2 previous posters, that at least 1 gb is the way to go. When I got my 1.83 ghz macbook with half a gig of ram, I was already planning on upgrading to 2 gigs. Half a gig just didn't seem to be enough for the system to run efficiently with a couple of programs open. However, my girlfriend recently bought a macbook (she loved mine so much) and got 1 gig of ram, and that works perfectly for her, so 1 gig should be just fine for normal use of the laptop.

It depends on your computer habits. I have two MacBooks with 512MB each. I had originally intended to add additional third party RAM. My wife does a lot of word processing on hers; and I use mine for e-mail and internet. The only big third party program on either one is Neo-office. There is no slow down or waiting with 512MB. If our computer habits change I will add the additional RAM. Now if you are doing processor intensive operations, whatever those might be, you will want to have at least 1GB.

Have a nice day!

User uploaded fileYes, 512MB of RAM is enough for basic web surfing and general word processing, but 1GB would be better.

The beautiful thing about computers is that they can be upgraded later at fair prices. RAM is very simple to add and a cheap upgrade at that.

My advice - buy what you can afford now and add more RAM later if needed. You are out nothing if you choose to skip the extra RAM now as it will likely cost a bit less later.
