Hi, I'm completely new to the MAC world, and I'm experiencing a problem like your.
As fas as I know, being the OSX similar to the UNIX one, no defrag is possible, as far as the MAC uses different partitions to work properly. Or at least, when I was using LINUX I knew that the situation was this.
Some tips? Keep the desktop as clean as you can, do not surcharge the HD (leave a significant leeway) and .. I don't know anything else, I'm sorry. But at least I answered you.
