RGB I think this should work.
Apple TV (& essentially all modern analog component connections on consumer video equipment) is not based on RGB components but on YPbPr ones. RGB is an old video standard primarily used in professional video for long analog signal cable runs, & also supported by some video monitors & TV's.
Unless your TV supports YPbPr component video (sometimes identified as Y, B-Y, R-Y), a simple cable adaptor will not work.
