this is a huge grey area at the moment, some people say it won't work at all, some people think a simple lead as you suggest will work whilst others say a more expensive RGB COMPONENT TO RGB TRANSCODER is required. I've got my cable coming Wednesday (cheap via ebay) and hope to pick up apple tv at my local apple centre before the weekend to try.

... so long as the tv scart socket is able to recieve
RGB I think this should work.

Apple TV (& essentially all modern analog component connections on consumer video equipment) is not based on RGB components but on YPbPr ones. RGB is an old video standard primarily used in professional video for long analog signal cable runs, & also supported by some video monitors & TV's.

Unless your TV supports YPbPr component video (sometimes identified as Y, B-Y, R-Y), a simple cable adaptor will not work.

Heres the cable, just cheap as I did not want so spend loads if it did not work,

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&ih=013&sspagename=STRK%3AMEWN%3A IT&viewitem=&item=230082133072&rd=1&rd=1

and here's the transcoder http://www.keene.co.uk/electronics/multi.php?mycode=rgb2c

which I'm told by Keene if the Apple TV can output a 480i or 576i signal (which it can) into our RGB2C and then connect to a scart RGB terminal!

As I said, I've got the cable, got the transcoder on the basis of if it don't work I can send it back, so all I need know is apple tv!

Just to let you know, I have apple tv working on my tv with only scart input.

Here is the setup:

component leads connected to a keene SYNCBLASTER RGB2C COMPONENT TO RGB TRANSCODER (adaptor supplied from keene).

Switch Settings on transcoder:

1 down
2 up
3down
4 up

push the button in to show amber/red light

Scart lead (make sure it is fully wired) to tv

Apple tv set to 480i

Audio via the optical out to my sony amp.

Works a treat!

This is the only way you can get the video to work with scart.

I bought the apple tv without checking the full settings, and assumed that an rgb scart lead would work, but was determined to get it working. The keene convertor is a very impressive peice of kit and worth the price.
