How to download HD QT movie trailers, import into iTunes & watch with ATV?

Is there a tutorial for dummies on how to do that?

I have been able to download (via QuickTime) a few HD trailers, save them, import them into iTunes, sync them to my Apple TV and then watch them.

However, with most of the HD trailers I downloaded via QuickTime, I could not save them with QuickTime (I do have QuickTime pro) and didn't see anyway to import them directly from QuickTime to iTunes.

this is really simple. in the iTunes Store, go to the movies section. Then, scroll to the bottom. On the bottom left there is a link to view movie trailers. Go there. Now you're in the iTS movie trailer section. Look for the section that has the HD trailers. Click on one. it gives you several options for download. Grab one of the 720p trailers, and it will put it in your Podcasts directory in iTunes. If your machine is set to stream to iTunes, you're done. Just select the machine in source, navigate to Podcasts, and select the trailer. If you're Apple TV is set to sync from that machine and you'd rather do that, you can manually sync once the file has downloaded. In my experience streaming the file works great. I'm using an 'N' network.

You are, of course, waiting until the file is completely cached before attempting to save them, correct? Otherwise, the "Save" option will be "grayed out." I have no problems downloading/saving any of HD files from the Apple Trailer area with QT Pro.

But that is precisely the problem: if anyone does exactly what you are suggesting, what they will see on their TV screens WILL NOT BE the 720p image they dowloaded, it will be the "transcoded" image designed by Apple to be viewed on iPods, which once proyected into a 40 or 50 inch screen will look awful. That's the real problem.

Thanks. I missed the section in iTunes for movie trailers.

I did wait until the trailers (all from Apple's QT HD trailer page) downloaded completely. I had luck saving things like the NASA space shuttle trailer and the Hanks/IMAX/moon trailer, but no luck with things like "Walk the Line," "Spider-Man 3" and "Batman Begins." I'll try again tonight.

I was able to save the 720 HD preview of the NASA trailer and the Hank/IMAX/moon trailer. The IMAX trailer worked with a drag and drop and sync. I had to put the NASA trailer through the iMovie routine to get to go all the way to the Apple TV (it would go into iTunes, but not sync to Appel TV).

Both looked better than SDTV on my 32" Panasonic 4:3 1080i HDTV monitor.

Very Strange, I had no trouble downloading Spider-man 3 just moments ago. The 720p version from the trailer site is not, however, TV compatible since its total data rate is in excess of 7117 Kbps.

this is really simple...
Thanks for the tip, mrfett. Not being a regular ITMS user, I didn't realize they had modified the site to allow trailer downloads in multiple encoded formats.

I was able to download all the 720p HD trailers from the Quicktime HD site. I then Saved them with QT Pro and Exported them to Apple TV. They all look absolutely perfect. I just uploaded them to my .Mac account and will make them available for everyone to download, plus a few more I got from NASA and another I captured my my HD Cable company connection.
