Q: Desperate for help with SheepShaver!

I have an application which will only run in Classic. I have spent most of my afternoon trying to figure out how to configure SheepShaver to run Classic on my MacBook Pro. I have been to many sites that describe how to set up SheepShaver, but I do not understand much of the terminology. I have also read through many posts on this site, but have not found a complete set of instructions that I am able to understand.

At this point I have downloaded SheepShaver and some of the necessary programs and information, such as TomeViewer and the Mac OS ROM Update. I am just stuck in the mud with this and could use some help. Would anyone who has had success with this be willing to guide me through this process?

Thanks,

    Hi

    To be honest you might be better off buying a PowerMac G4 Graphite or Quicksilver and running your classic apps on that, they will run far better and be simpler and less work to install. Have a look on eBay.

    Having said that check this link out as I think it will assist you with your SheepShaver problems: http://theappleblog.com/2006/07/01/classic-on-intel-macs-courtesy-of-sheepshaver /

    Hi BimpyMacUser;

    Instead of talking about an application in the generic form, if you would tell us what the name of that specific application is we might be able to tell if it will even run under SheepShaver.

    I have read through the tutorial, but I don't understand at least some parts of it. I was hoping someone would help explain the parts that I do not understand, and hopefully that would be enough to get SheepShaver up and running on my MacBook Pro. I do have a PowerBook G4, but we have turned it into our household computer, which causes problems when I want to run an analysis for several hours.

    I wouldn't say that I am computer illiterate, but I'm definitely on the lower end compared to folks on this message board. Antonio (or anyone else), I would greatly appreciate any help with setting up SheepShaver (even if the help is spread over a couple weeks).

    Thanks,

    Wow! I googled PAUP and that is some specialized software.

    I did see they are working on a version for Intel Macs. I also saw they had versions for even 68k (non-PowerPC) Macs that just do it more slowly. They recommend at least System 7.6! I guess what takes several hours on an OSX Mac would have to work overnight on a 68k.

    Maybe pick up an old old machine for cheap, or borrow one. I am guessing you are in an academic environment, I bet somebody has something like that sitting around. An old Powermac or iMac or something. Then you could solve the SheepShaver problem with less urgency.

    Hi GimpyMacUser;

    After you provided the name of the application, I was able to find this on the web about running PAUO 4.0 on Intel based Macs.

    NOTE FOR INTEL MAC USERS: Intel Macs require a separate download (command-line only at this time). Contact support@sinauer.com for download instructions after purchase. When emailing, it will help to expedite the process if you include as much as possible of the following information: when the purchase was made, where it was purchased, where it was shipped to, the invoice number, and the program serial number.

    Hope this helps.
