iPod Nano skipping songs

Hello all, I have an ipod shuffle and just got a new Nano. I use the same Macbook and same iTunes for both the Shuffle and Nano. The Nano skips songs or starts to play a song and then stops and starts playing the next song.

I reset the Nano, that didn't work, I did a complete restore, that didn't work. I contacted tech support and sent the Nano in for testing. Before I sent them the Nano, I gathered all the songs that the nano would skip and only put those songs on the Nano.

After Apple tested, they claim there was no problem. When I got the Nano back, they wiped all the songs off the Nano. I put music back on the Nano and still having the same problem. I had also bought my wife a nano and I put the same songs on her nano and got the same problem. I put the same songs back on the Shuffle and they played just fine.

Don't know what else to do. I can't return it because its engraved. Any help please??

I think I just figured out the problem. All the songs
that would skip has a bit rate of 96. I guess the
Nano doesn't like the low bit rate

Your conclusion is flawed, as is the analysis. Look closer at the tracks... select some and click File>Get Info>Summary
and copy results here.

Nanos and Shuffles BOTH play audio at lower rates than 128 kb/s.

I just started having the same problem on my daughter's 2gb iPod Nano, my 4gb is working just fine. She does not have the shuffle set to on and if you go to select song #1 in her music list, it jumps to song #2, plays some of that and then it jumps again, sometimes up to song #65 or higher.

96 kbps encoding may be problematic, but it's not the only factor. I downloaded three songs recently from the iTunes Store (128 kbps) and transferred them to my 8 GB Nano. Two of the songs skip through immediately when they come up in a playlist, and the third one plays just fine. All three play in iTunes no problem. I have tried all the usual fixes (resetting, restoring, erasing and reloading my entire music collection) but nothing has helped getting those two "bad" songs to play. This only happened after I upgraded my Nano software to version 1.1.3, but other songs I downloaded after that upgrade work OK.

I am having this problem as well, for the first time. I thought it had something to do with installing the new iPod software since it happened the same night. It is only skipping the one song I downloaded the night I upgraded the iPod software. I have tried reloading the entire library of songs as well as resetting the Nano. Nothing has worked yet.

Same problem here. I downloaded an album from itunes and a few of the songs skip through to the next song. I have done everything suggested (restoring, deauthorizing/authorizing, redid my itunes library, latest versions of ipod software and itunes) and nothing has worked.

This is the first time I have encountered the problem and these were the first downloads after updating the ipod software to the latest version.

Also, the songs that skip are both 128kbps. I am starting to think its this new version of the ipod software. 2 of 7 cant be played on my ipod but play fine on itunes.

Okay...here's what I got from Apple Support. First, try to reset your Nano (hold the Menu button and the center button down together until the Apple icon appears - about 10 seconds). If this does not work for you, you can "restore" your iPod. THIS WILL ERASE YOUR IPOD AND PUT THE FACTORY SETTINGS BACK ON. To do this:

Plug your iPod into your computer and start iTunes. Your iPod should appear on the left, and click on it to open up the Summary Page. In the middle of this page are two buttons, "Update" & "Restore." Click on the latter button to restore your iPod, then download your music again.

So far, my Nano is working after a Reset. I'll follow up to let you all know if it seems to have worked or if I have to Restore.
