🙂 thank you kindly. that rules out a bunch of possibilities.

we'd better check to see if anything can start your iPod Service just at the moment.

right-click "My Computer", and select "Manage". expand "Services and Applications" and click "Services". maximise the window so you can see what's going on.

find iPod Service in the list of services. is it saying "Stopped" at the moment? if so, right-click on it and select "Restart".

does it start, or do you get an error message? if you get an error message, what does it say? (include error message numbers if you're getting any.)

I'm having this issue where the installation gets hung up at "stopping services." I then get a message saying iPod service is not stopping. I went to My Computer and did as your message suggested but it reads "stopping" and all boxes are greyed out preventing me from doing anything. When I right click and hit refresh nothing happens. When I go to properties I have no options available to me. I can't get the service to stop.

Hi b noir

Thanks for all your other posts... they have helped me get to this point!...

I have a slight variation on this issue - an Error 1503...

My original symptom was that I couldn't get iTunes to recognise my iPod so I tried to install 7.2.0.35... and right at the end I got the message about "iPod service failed to start check your permissions"...

I have used msconfig to shut down everything other than iTunes and QuickTime etc...

When I run services.msc I get 2 versions of iPod Service listed - one as "iPod Service" and the other as"iPodService" (i.e. no space between iPod and Service)... the "iPodService" is started but the "iPod Service" is not and when I try to start it I get a message "Could not start the iPod Service service on Local Computer. Error 1503: The service did not respond to the start or control request in a timely fashion"

Would appreciate any assistance!...

Many thanks in advance...
