Can I export music from my iTunes library to another application?

Okay...tell me if this is right. My Music>iTunes>iTunes Music>Artist Folder>Album Title>music There, it shows as an M4A file. That's fine. It will only open using iTunes.

I guess the programs I'm trying to import audio into don't support the M4A file and I'd have to burn it to CD in order to use it?

Yeah those apps probably just don't ACC. Burn it to
an audio CD then re rip it to wav or mp3 ( I assume
those apps will use wav. Most do)

I want to create a slideshow for my son's HS graduation and couldn't figure out how to get his favorite music in it as background. I was thinking I'd have to go buy the music at some other site and download them mp3's!

Oh wait before you waste a CD, I forgot. Since it is
an unprotected ACC file you can actually just convert
it to an MP3 directly in iTunes. Completely forgot
about that. You can select the song righrt click and
convert selection to MP3 (if you have you import
setting set to mp3).

Okay, you lost me. When I right click on a song, the only option I see is "convert to AAC"....

Yes. import setting in preferences. Change it to MP3

I'm sorry for all these questions.
AAC is higher quality than MP3, right?
Can I just temporarily convert these music selections to mp3's to get them into the other applications and then change them back to AAC?

I think AAC will get you a little better quality for
the same file size of an Mp3. If I recall, iTunes
saves the original file and makes a copy with the
converted version. But to be safe, just make a backup
copy of the original file

And I take it that it makes no difference what format the file is in, it will still upload to the iPod and be playable there. I guess the default is set at AAC in iTunes and I never knew where/how to change it.
