Videos won't play on video iPod

Have had my iPod for a month or so now and have mostly music on it, its a 30 gig video. Recently I downloaded a tv show and a video podcast. When I play them off of iTunes I have no problem seeing the video but when I play them on the iPod I get a screen like its playing audio and can only hear the audio, the video doesn't play on the screen. Is this a settings thing I have messed up or something else entirely? Please help!

I have the same problem. I just found out last night when I decided to download podcasts and start using my video player more. It's also been at least 6 months since I last used it to watch video. And now whenever I select any video, it freezes up the iPod and i have to reset it. So I do get audio function and can view pictures but no video. I have reset it to factory setting like 3 times now, and no improvment. I am also just using the video menu when selecting, and tv output is set to on. My iPod is also a 30 gig. I hope some one can help us with this problem.

I didnt mean that videos from my ipod would not play through a tv set, i ment that when using the ipod video settings to adjust the settings to:on, off, or ask. Did not have any affect that helped, since somebody already pointd out that it should be set to "off" anyways when using the ipod to watch videos on the ipod itself. My problem is that when i try to watch any video on my video ipod, it goes to a black screen like it should before it plays a video. But it does not play anythig, it will let me adjust the volume, but as soon as i try to use any of the other options using the click wheel it freezes. And then i have to manualy reset the ipod itself by pressing the menu button and the center button at the same time till it resets. I have gone through this cycle many times, i have even tried to use itunes to reset it losing all my music about three times, and still no change. One thing i still have to try is uninstalling itunes and loading up the disk my ipod came with, maybe that will help. I really dont understand why this is happening, all the videos i had on my ipod where only videos and podcasts from the itunes store. I had no media or videos that had to be converted useing other softwear. Maybe i should have just gotten a iRiver that day.

I'm having this problem as well. I've had the unit, which is a 80GB Video, for less than 2 weeks. Last night I was trying to upload some videos to it from itunes, and it wouldn't connect, saying it couldn't access the hard drive on the unit. I went through the five R's, and after the restore, i connected the ipod to my system, but now itunes couldn't see it, even though windows could. So I uninstalled and reinstalled Itunes, then reconnected the ipod, and it seemed to be ok. It recognized the ipod, and began downloading all my songs and videos. Everything seemed fine, but today, I went to play a video, one that I know was playing properly before this happened, and now it won't play. It shows a black screen with the play symbol in the upper left corner, and the battery level in the upper right corner, and then it just fades to black. If I let it set for a few more seconds, it reboots. This happens with every video file now. The TV Out setting is set to OFF, so that is not the issue. Music still plays fine, and I can't confirm how pictures are displaying, as I don't have any loaded. Is something corrupt on my ipod? It seems hard to believe that all of my videos are corrupt. Any ideas? Alternately, can I talk this thing into an Apple store nad have it looked at and possibly replaced, seeing as it's still under warrantee and all?

Mine has started doing this recently too. I watch one video fine but it's when I try and play a second video that exactly what you describe above happens (well the bit i've quoted anyway) So i play the next video fine and when I try to play another video it happens again and the pattern continues.
