Mod Wheel Difficulties

Hi there,

I’m getting more into the modwheel aspects of software such as Garritan and EastWest Gold Symphonic Orchestra but my keyboard doesn’t have a mod wheel or a pitch wheel…

So…

1. Can I buy an external stand alone mod wheel that plugs in as a usb midi device? Does anyone know anywhere that might have this?
2. If not then is there a virtual mod wheel plug in I could use, or is it possible to edit all the midi information sent from the mod wheel using automation data in Logic? I notice Garritan has a virtual mod wheel, is there a plug in that could be downloaded to use with EastWest?
3. My ancient keyboard has a pitch wheel but it’s spring loaded, is it worth getting this out and trying to assign it as a mod wheel or is it just not worth it? (plus it’s only 2 ½ octaves.
4. My keyboard is a really expensive full scale fully weighted stage piano so I’m reluctant, actually can’t afford a full size mod wheel one, should I get a small keyboard with a mod wheel and use this after inputting the notes on the other keyboard or is that not worth it either?
5. Can anyone recommend any other solutions to my problem or a really good cheap midi controller keyboard?

Thanks for any help anyone can give! I’m really worried that I don’t really have an easy way out here without buying a new keyboard :s.

All the best,

Blair
