No Sound Coming Out of Internal Speakers

hit the volume first on the keyboard

Then I tried the speaker icon in the upper right corner in the top bar

Then I tried System preferences and the sound

tried boosting the volume on all 3 and nothing

was working earlier today with no beef

I even shut it down for 45 minutes and then rebooted to no avail

I did burn a CD and noticed that the volume didn't come on
about an hour later
I have been working with the Audacity freeware lately, but have not experienced any crashes or signs of anything weird

I did notice that the start up chime is silent on re-boot

I attempted PRAM to no avail

I shut down rather than restart

I hit the "on" button and waited for the boot sound (since the chime is silent)

I waited 2 seconds and then hit the PRAM

I got the chime sound, but it didn't ring out as long as it usually does and it got cut short

I then proceeded to the music selections in Itunes, and still no sound

Nothing through the headphones

I went into sys pref and all there was was a speaker icon with the word "sound" written under it

When clicking on it, there is a "choose a device for sound out put"
the only choice is for a
"built in audio controller"

In the system profile tab and devices and volume tab in "About this Mac", there is not even a section named "audio"

its the sound board. thats the name of the component. i didnt find any kbase the manual states for this situation :

No sound from speaker(s)
1. Use the Software Update system preference pane to verify that the latest audio
update has been installed.

2. Press the F3 key (with the fn key pressed and not pressed) to verify that mute mode is
not enabled.

3. Press the F4 or F5 key (with the fn key pressed and not pressed) to check the volume
setting.

4. Verify no external speakers or headphones are plugged in.

5. Check the speakers tab on the Sound control panel to confirm that the software is
correctly seeing that there are no external speakers or headphones connected.

6. Shutdown computer and restart.

7. Reset PRAM (Press the power button, then hold down the Option-Command-P-R
keys until you hear the startup chime at least one additional time after the initial
startup chime).

Warning: Resetting the PRAM will permanently remove a RAM disk, if present,
and all of its contents. You will also need to reset the date and time (using the
Date & Time system preference pane).

8. Verify that the speaker cable is connected properly to sound board.

most of these which you have done.

last steps are replace flex cable
and replce soundboard
lastly to reaplce the mlb.

which i dont think in necessary.

In regards to suggestion 1.
I clicked on the sys pref / soft update, and there was no indication of updated audio

What site offers the latest audio update in case i missed an update?
Also, is that the exact name of it designated with the phrase, "audio update" ?

2., 3. , 4. checked out ok w/ no sound

for 5., the sound control panel only offers a sound effects tab, an output tab, and an input tab, but no speakers tab
