Same Artist Listed Multiple times on iPod..

Before anyone tells me about changing the artist info of the song, I know about that. The problem is not the file info, I haven't changed the artist's info in about 6 months but all of sudden, on my iPod only not iTunes, the same artist is listed about 10 times. I only have one album of the artist on my iPod, and like I said the files haven't been edited in months. I know its not a serious problem, but it is annoying scrolling through the same artist and I am hoping my iPod is becoming corrupted. Anyone experience the same problem?

of the artist that is showing multiple times on my
iPod and am assuming that this is taking up more
memory.

SiWhittle, do the artists appear more than once on only your iPod, or does it do the same in iTunes? If it does the same in iTunes, select all the songs by the same artist and right-click, then select get info. Then go to the artist field, and re-enter the artist name. Sometimes it's a space character in the artist field that differentiates the songs from each other.
My problem has nothing to do with what I just mentioned. The artist is showing up multiple times on my iPod only. In iTunes, it is displaying normally.

Sorry to double post, there is no edit button. I just tried removing the artist (Death Cab For Cutie), and replacing the songs back on my iPod. Now the band was listed twice instead of ten times but it still was basically the same problem with the same artist. The weird thing is I just added new artists on to my iPod on they appear fine. I made sure Death Cab For Cutie's entire selection on my iPod was pointing to the same exact spelling of the artist. So, then I tried something different, instead of spelling Death Cab For Cutie exactly, I added a space to the end of the artist's name and now it appears only once on my iPod. It is so weird that my iPod was having trouble with the exact spelling of Death Cab For Cutie. I have no clue what is the cause.

Hmm...same here.

I had posted my question under the itunes post about a week ago and heard nothing back.

In my case, after the recent update I added a new album to an aready existing artist in my iTunes, synced and the next time I used the ipod , I noticed it had the same Artist 3 times, identical playlist, album tiltes, and tracks!

I've unchecked the artist, synced, and as expected they go from the ipod.

I check them back on and they appear 3 times again after syncing.

The only thing I have yet to do is a total restore. But with 60gigs of video audio and photos, its a bit of a pain!

Im getting very wary of these Itunes updates, remember the infamous -48 error that had every one baffled for about a month?

In my case the artist in question is New Order. I've renamed all my NO tracks to New Order2 as the artist, synced and the artist comes up twice!

I've renamed them back to 'New Order' and clicked on 'Album artist' to be 'New Order' also and re synced and I get back 3 in the list!!!

Try erasing the "sort artist" field and see if that helps.

Yes , they are only appearing on my iPod, iTunes shows the artist just once.
