looking for compatible camera

i also am in the market for a new camcorder that is compatible with my imac OS X system and FCE. i like the sony hdrsr1 but i'm not sure if it will work and i will be able to edit from this. does anyone know? should i just stick to mini dv and be safe in this case? does anyone have any suggestions for a camera that i could edit on this system with and still have it be a good quality camera as far as picture quality, priced under $1500?
