IPOD NANO Wheel not functioning - SHOT ????

I have a 1 GB IPOD Nano that all funtions seem to be working except all funtions of the click wheel. Won't turn on or off, play, ect. I have tried the 5 R's , resetting, all the typical stuff you find on the support pages. The only thing that does seem to work is uploading from I tunes ( I can manipulate the songs onto / off the IPOD, ect ). Battery is fully charged, and I tunes does regonize the unit when USB cable is connected. When "restored" from main page of I tunes, the songs are gone, but the wheel still doesn't work. Any tech out there with a suggestion?

You can test the scroll wheel and other button functions in Diagnostic Mode. Reset the iPod by holding the Menu and Centre buttons until the screen changes. As soon as it does, release both buttons and press and hold Reverse and the Centre buttons. In Diagnostic Mode, go to Manual test, IO, and then Wheel. Run both the KeyTest and the WheelTest. If either one of these fails, the iPod is defective and needs to be replaced. If they both pass, it is a software-related issue.
