i get "FATAL ERROR DURING INSTALLATION" when i try to remove the program quicktime from add remove programs.

ahhhh. one of those.

okay, with that one, let's try the procedure from the following post:

(the download link for iTunes 7.1.0.59 in that post leads through to an iTunes 7.1.1.5 installer now.)

well you helped very much and im most of the way there!

i installed itunes 4.9 and it all works but the ipod mini i have. it comes up with this message:

The software required for communicating with the iPod is not installed correctly. Please reinstall iTunes to install the iPod's software

i searched a bit and found a xp user switching thing but i only use one login and im trying to devolve itunes so it takes up less of my cpu so i can play games while listening to music. is it possible to keep itunes 4.9? should i uninstall my ipod and reinstall it?

thank you for all of your help so far.

and by the way is there any way to extract ipod songs so their file names arent so darn weird? my ipod changed the name of all my songs. some of them are now named the same as other songs, if the artist/album name began the filename.

okay. if you have a 4.9 in there, you'll also need a copy of the standalone ipod updater software:

does installing that help with the message?
