Best format to rip Dvds to play on HD TV?

Hi,

I have a 32inc HD LCD TV, hdmi 1280x720 res. I want to rip my DVDs in order to add my collection to iTunes and use appleTV to stream to my HDTv.
I downloaded mediafork to rip my DVDs. Storage is not an issue but I really don't know what settings I should use to get the best picture on my TV.
I am new at this and need some help.
Thanks

Mac OS X (10.4.9)

I don't really know what would be the best quality?
A 16:9 DVD could be exported at macro clock-16 dimensions of 720 x 400 pixels. At these dimensions the best export would likely be an MP4 (H.264/AAC "Main" profile) in the range of 2250 Kbps to 2500 Kbps depending on the frame rate (23.98/24 fps or 29.97/30 fps). I'd test at 2400 Kbps and adjust if needed.) Apple usually uses AAC at 128 Kbps/44.1 KKHz but will work at 160 Kbps/48.0 KHz (but there's no guarantee that data rates greater than 160 Kbps will sync/play).
