Stuck on "Please Wait, Very Low Battery"!

Hey there-

Try resetting the iPod while it's connected to the computer by making sure HOLD is OFF so there's no orange color showing, and then holding MENU and SELECT (center) together for about 10 seconds. You should see an Apple logo come up on the screen.

You may also need to connect it to a high powered USB port, such as one on the rear of a PC tower.

You might also want to try a different USB cable, or a USB wall charger or different machine. If you bring your cable with you to the Apple store they should be able to test that for you as well. Don't forget to make your appointment!

Currently, I am having the exact same problem. I have reset numerous times. I have tried ten different USB ports on three computers, and with two different USB cables. This problem comes up a lot with my 80GB 5.5 gen. Any time the battery gets below half full, it refuses to charge through a USB port, and it has done so since January. This seems like a pervasive problem, and I guess I just want there to be a solution that isn't replacement because tons of people are having the same issue so replacement probably won't solve it.

Well, if the issue is with the iPod/iPod battery, replacing it through Apple is probably your only option that won't void your warranty. You could try to replace the battery yourself, but then if anything else goes wrong with the iPod, Apple will tell you that it is no longer covered under the warranty because you opened it and attempted to perform your own repairs on it.

The guy I talked to at the apple store said to plug it into the wall until it comes on and then restore it before it loses charge. He also said that I shouldn't ever charge it through the computer, only through the ac power adapter.

When I put my ipod on my mac stereo port, the battery shows fully charged, but it plays. when I take it off and it goes dead, and when attached to the pc, it shows the message"please wait, very low battery. Any guesses?

I had this message appearing last night for the first time - completely drained battery.

what I've done when i just want to charge the iPod is to plug it in with `FireWire cable. I have one of those Y cables that has both USB and FW on one side and dock connector on the other. [genuine apple product]

i left it until it charged fully and is back to normal. i didn't try to connect it with a USB cable, though.
