Network printing worked with Win98 but now failing on WinXP!

Hi, folks.

Here at school we have a HP Laserjet 1010 that used to be attached to an old PC running Win98 (YES, it lives yet!). At that time (till last week), I could print from my iBook using Foomatic driver.

Last week, school bought a new PC that runs WinXP SP2 and they attached the printer to it.

I deleted the old printer and followed the very same steps to add it again. It works ok. I can see it through the network and I always succeed adding it. But every time I try to print something, I get this error message:

"Unable to connect to SAMBA host, will retry in 60 seconds...foomatic-rip version $revision 3.something"

After 60 seconds, it tries again and then I get:

Connection failed with error NT STATUS_ACCESSDENIED

I have already turned WinXP firewall off but nothing has changed.

Could anyone help me?

Cheers,

JP

Do you have an account on the PC or is the Guest account enabled?
Is the WinXP SP2 firewall set up to allow sharing? (Oh, I see it's off) - is there any other firewall running?
Do the WinXP computer name or Printer share name have spaces or other unusual characters in them?
If it's using the same IP address - have you deleted references to this computer/printer in OS X Keychain?
